Kamaniya gifts us with chants that call
out to each of us, deepening our connection
to nature, to Mother Earth, and to each other. With spontaneous
purity, her healing songs unite diverse spiritual traditions,
reminding us of our true selves. A guiding light in the New
York kirtan community, Kamaniya is the founder of Heart of
Kirtan, the soon to be re-launched eNewsletter promoting sacred
music and devotional and meditative events. She has been a
staff member at Ananda Ashram for several years, where she
studies Sanskrit and Yoga philosophy, and designs and facilitates
Ashram programs. She leads kirtan at yoga centers and retreats
throughout the Tri-state area.
Damaru (the name of Lord Shiva's drum), is a well-known
percussionist, ektara, and tamboura player, as well as a popular
kirtan wallah, in the NYC
area, and is the founder of the Theater of the Devaloka, a
sacred puppet theater with storytelling and live music. He
is a sincere practitioner of sacred healing sound as a pathway
to the divine within, and is passionately interested in a wide
range of global music. Damaru is especially attracted to kirtan,
sacred interfaith chants, trance, gospel, and all forms of
spiritual music. He has performed at a variety of venues with
many other well known kirtan musicians, including internationally
renowned kirtan wallah, Bhagavan Das, who he has accompanied
on percussion for many years.
